Scholarship Policy

Purpose

In our commitment to create a world that works for all, BK Authors promotes inclusive representation of that world in all activities. To further that goal we have established a scholarship fund to support authors wishing to attend either the Marketing Conference or the Authors Retreat who may need support to do so.

Who May Apply

Any member that is a current Berrett-Koehler author, including those serving on the Board of Directors, may apply. We particularly seek to support authors who need financial assistance to attend events; authors of color; people who have disabilities; first nations; LGBTQ2; BK Currents and Life authors; BK authors residing outside the United States; and BK authors under-represented in the broader membership.

To apply you need to :

  1. be a current member of BK Authors
  2. have published your book through Berrett-Koehler Publishers.
  3. have a signed contract with Berrett-Koehler Publishers.

Funding

The number or scholarships available is set annually by the board based on funding raising for the year.

Each scholarship is for 100% of the registration fee excluding travel and accommodation.

Any BK Author are eligible to apply for up to two scholarships per year for the Marketing Conference and the Author Retreat respectively.

How to apply

Submit a completed Scholarship Request Form to our Administrator.

Note: Information submitted on Scholarship Request Forms will be treated confidentially.

Adjudication

The scholarship will be granted to those requesting assistance on a first applied and first approved basis

The Board’s Executive Committee (President, Treasurer, Secretary, and BK Board Liaison) will select scholarship recipients within one week following the function’s scholarship application deadline.

The board reserves the right to reduce the available scholarship to below 100% of the registration fee in years of high demand.

Deadlines:

The deadline to apply for scholarship support is the early bird registration deadline for each annual event.
